Getting Started

What is Kitchelin?+

Kitchelin is an AI-powered cooking assistant available on iPhone. Snap a photo of the ingredients you have on hand, and Kitchelin generates a complete recipe tailored to your skill level and taste. You can also use the voice-guided Sous-Chef to walk you through each cooking step hands-free.

How do I create an account?+

Open the Kitchelin app and tap Sign in with Apple or Sign in with Google. Your account is created automatically the first time you sign in. No separate registration or password is needed.

Is Kitchelin free to use?+

Yes. Every Kitchelin account starts on the Free plan, which includes 7 recipes and 7 sous chef messages per week, plus voice sous-chef. If you need more, you can upgrade to a paid plan at any time.

  • Free: 7 recipes and 7 sous chef messages per week, voice sous-chef.
  • Pro ($8/month): 50 recipes and 20 sous chef messages per week, advanced AI recipes.
  • Premium ($20/month): Unlimited recipes and 40 sous chef messages per week, premium voice quality, premium AI models, priority support.
What devices are supported?+

The Kitchelin app is available for iPhone running iOS 17 or later. You can also manage your account, subscription, and published recipes from any web browser at kitchelin.com.

Using the App

How does ingredient scanning work?+

Tap the camera button and take a photo of the ingredients you want to cook with. Kitchelin’s AI analyzes the photo and identifies your ingredients automatically.

Tips for best results:

  • Use good lighting and avoid heavy shadows.
  • Place all ingredients in the frame before snapping.
  • Avoid blurry photos — hold your phone steady.
  • If the AI misidentifies an ingredient, you can manually edit the list before generating a recipe.
What is the Sous-Chef?+

The Sous-Chef is a voice-guided cooking assistant that reads each recipe step aloud and lets you ask questions hands-free while you cook. It can suggest substitutions, explain techniques, and more. The Sous-Chef is available on all plans, with premium voice quality on the Premium plan.

Can I type ingredients instead of taking a photo?+

Yes. After opening the camera screen, you can switch to manual entry and type your ingredients directly. This is helpful if a photo isn’t detecting an ingredient correctly or if you prefer typing.

How do I share a recipe?+

Open any recipe in the app and tap the Share button. You can publish the recipe to a public link that anyone can view in their browser, or share it directly via Messages, email, or social media.

Does the app work offline?+

Kitchelin requires an internet connection to generate recipes and power the Sous-Chef, since these features rely on cloud AI models. Previously generated recipes saved to your device can be viewed offline.

Subscriptions & Billing

How do I upgrade my plan?+

In the app: Go to your profile and tap Manage Subscription to view available plans and upgrade through the App Store.

On the web: Sign in at kitchelin.com/dashboard and choose a plan. Web subscriptions are processed through Stripe.

When you upgrade, you are charged a prorated amount for the remainder of your current billing cycle.

How do I cancel my subscription?+

If you subscribed through the App Store: Open your iPhone Settings → tap your name at the top → Subscriptions → select Kitchelin → tap Cancel Subscription.

If you subscribed on the web: Sign in at kitchelin.com/dashboard and click Manage Billing. From the Stripe billing portal you can cancel or pause your subscription.

Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period. You can continue using paid features until then.

Can I pause my subscription instead of canceling?+

Yes. If you subscribed on the web, you can pause your subscription from the Stripe billing portal (click Manage Billing on your dashboard). While paused, you won’t be charged and your account will switch to Free plan limits. Your data and recipes remain saved. You can resume at any time from the same billing portal.

What are credit packs?+

Credit packs are one-time purchases that give you extra recipe or Sous-Chef requests beyond your plan’s weekly allowance. They do not expire and are used only after your weekly allowance runs out.

  • 50 Recipe Credits: $9.99
  • 20 Sous-Chef Credits: $9.99

Your daily plan allowance is always used first. Credits are only consumed once your allowance is exhausted.

When does my weekly usage reset?+

Your recipe and Sous-Chef request counts reset every week on Monday at midnight UTC. If you’ve reached your limit, you can wait for the next reset or use a credit pack for additional requests.

I subscribed on my iPhone. Do I also have a web subscription?+

No. Your App Store subscription and any web (Stripe) subscription are separate. You only need one. If you subscribed through the App Store, there is no need to subscribe again on the website. Your account and plan sync automatically between the app and the web dashboard.

How do I request a refund?+

App Store purchases: Refunds for App Store subscriptions and in-app purchases are handled by Apple. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com to request a refund.

Web purchases: Contact us at chef@kitchelin.com and we’ll review your request.

Recipes & Food Safety

Are the recipes tested by real chefs?+

Kitchelin recipes are generated by AI based on established cooking patterns, techniques, and flavor combinations. While the AI produces high-quality results, recipes are not individually tested in a kitchen. We recommend tasting and adjusting seasoning as you cook, just as you would with any recipe.

Does Kitchelin account for food allergies?+

Kitchelin does its best to respect dietary preferences and restrictions you set in your profile. However, AI-generated recipes may not catch every allergen or cross-contamination risk. Always double-check ingredients if you or someone you are cooking for has food allergies. When in doubt, consult a medical professional.

Is AI-generated cooking advice safe to follow?+

The Sous-Chef provides helpful cooking guidance, but it is not a substitute for established food safety practices. Always follow these basics:

  • Use a food thermometer to ensure meats reach safe internal temperatures.
  • Wash hands and surfaces frequently when handling raw ingredients.
  • Refrigerate leftovers within two hours of cooking.
  • When in doubt, consult your local health authority’s food safety guidelines.

Account & Privacy

How do I delete my account?+

To request account deletion, email us at chef@kitchelin.com from the email address associated with your account. We will delete your personal data within 30 days, as described in our Privacy Policy. If you have an active subscription, please cancel it first to avoid further charges.

What data does Kitchelin collect?+

We collect your name and email (from your sign-in provider), subscription and payment status, and usage counts. Photos and voice recordings are processed in real time and are not stored on our servers after processing. Chat history is stored locally on your device only. For full details, see our Privacy Policy.

Who can see my published recipes?+

When you publish a recipe from the app, it becomes visible to anyone with the link. Your display name (or “a kitchelin chef” if you haven’t set one) appears as the author. You can unpublish a recipe at any time from the app to remove it from public view.

Troubleshooting

The app isn't recognizing my ingredients+

Try the following:

  • Make sure all ingredients are clearly visible in the photo.
  • Improve lighting — avoid dim rooms or strong backlighting.
  • Hold your phone steady to avoid blurry images.
  • Try placing ingredients on a plain, contrasting surface.
  • If a specific item isn’t detected, switch to manual entry and type it in.
The Sous-Chef isn't understanding me+

The voice Sous-Chef works best when you:

  • Speak clearly and at a normal pace.
  • Reduce background noise (fans, music, etc.).
  • Use specific requests like “read step 3” or “set a timer for 10 minutes.”
  • Make sure your device microphone is not blocked or muted.

The Sous-Chef requires an internet connection. If your connection is weak, responses may be delayed or incomplete.

The app is crashing or running slowly+
  • Make sure you are running the latest version of Kitchelin from the App Store.
  • Restart the app by closing it completely and reopening.
  • Check that your iPhone is running iOS 17 or later.
  • Free up storage space if your device is nearly full.
  • If the issue persists, contact us at chef@kitchelin.com with your device model and iOS version.
I'm being charged but my plan shows as Free+

This usually happens when a subscription was purchased through the App Store but your account session has expired. Try signing out and signing back in. If the issue continues, email us at chef@kitchelin.com with your Apple ID email and we’ll resolve it.
